5 December

This plant is another German thing. At least I cannot recall ever having seen one in Britain. It's botanical name is poinsettia, however in Germany it's called "Christstern" (Star of Christ) and virtually every household buys one during the run-up to Christmas.
Have a good week! Posted by Picasa

Dear Stephan,
I love the blog and especially the Advent Calendar. We do indeed have poinsettias in England at Christmas. I am sad enough to know that they were made popular and named after an American ambassador to Mexico!
I hope all is going well for your preparations for Christmas.
Best wishes,
Piers.

Hey Stephan,
wow your blog sure is popular and it makes me miss europe every time i read it. we also have poinsettias in Australia, although they are not such a big deal. in fact, the two we had last year over christmas actually died in the drought. so i'm thinking they are best suited to european environments and not harsh australian summers :o). have a fantastic christmas, i hope it snows. i shall be on the beach enjoying the sunshine...i hope.
love to all, Bron
